WG-300 ceramic tooling increases productivity in nickel alloy machining by upto 10 times.
Our recent plant expansions and major new machine tool acquisitions have
been instrumental in our bringing to market an expanded line of these advanced
ceramic inserts to further facilitate complex machining operations. Inserts
with holes (Pinlock style) have been added along with numerous other tools
such as new grooving tools, double-ended, V-bottom diamonds and Powerlock
grooving inserts. You can expect to find all popular shapes and sizes of
WG-300 inserts available off the shelf as a result of our expanded inventory
and quick service program.
Soar into the next century with a Greenleaf Poductivity Program.
What is WG-300?
Greenleaf WG-300, developed by Greenleaf Corporation,
is the first commercially available ceramic composite using the technology
of whisker reinforcement. It can operate upto 10 times the speeds used for uncoated carbide tools.
The basic concept involves reinforcing a hard ceramic matrix with extremely
strong,stiff silicon carbide crytals,commonly called whiskers.These whiskers
are grown under carefully controlled conditions and due to their high purity
and lack of grain boundaries approach the theoretical maximum strength obtainable. This
strength is calculated to be in the order of one million P.S.I. (6,900 MPa)
tensile! The super-strong whiskers are disperesed into a matrix of fine
graided aluminium oxide where they act much like glass filaments do,for
example in fibreglass,by adding tensile strength and improving the fracture
toughness of the brittle matrix. The increase in the frature toughness of
the material is such that inserts are now offerd without hones as a standard, making
them suitable for finish cuts on most forged nickel base alloys without
"smearing". WG-300 has outstanding thermal and mechanical shock resistance. It
can withstand intermittent cut application, such as in milling, without breakage. The
use of flood coolant is highly recommended at all times to increase tool
life.
Special Tooling Applications
Greenleaf engineering offer tooling solutions for the unique problems common
to the the aerospace industry and are supported by an extensive data base.Computer
Aided Design (CAD) utilizing advanced hardware and software such as three
dimensional solid modeling capability enables fast turnaround of proposal
drawings and finished tool detailing for manufacture at Greenleafs dedicated
tool shop. The wide selection of cutting tool materials available to Greenleaf
engieers ensures a creative solution to most problems.High nickel alloys, stainless
steels and titanium alloys are all part of the daily challenge and we offer
tools on Greenleaf as well as proprietary systems such as KM,CAPTO and HSK,if
required.
